The Pelican is the first hotel created by Diesel. The building was originally built in 1948 by architect Henry Hoarser (1895-1963) who is considered one of the principal architects of South Beach Deco. He was best known for working in the Nautical Moderne style. The Pelican Hotel building can be identified more with the Miami Moderne (MiMo) style than classic tropical Art Deco.
In conjunction with the unique taste of the Swedish designer Magnus Ehrland, The building was transformed into an eccentric space. All the rooms have been furnished and named after their own style, each one with that unique detailed search you find in movie sets. An example would be the Psychedelic (ate) Girl room made with plastic furniture and posters featuring the 70’s, the African room with a triumph of Zebra stripes furnished in old safari style, and the tribute to the American flag, the Stars and Stripes room.
