Hotel SO is a new design hotel in Christchurch, New Zealand.

“The Hotel SO concept originated from travels round US where I was staying in these huge hotel rooms where all I really wanted was a bed and bathroom, internet & TV. It seemed to me that by reducing room size but adding all the sexy things you really want in a compact but high design format the guest could have a far more rewarding experience for a budget price.

The design simply evolves from the necessity to be efficient with space.

Curvilinear shapes help this and takes the sharp corners out of objects when in reduced space. The idea is that the entire hotel is an organic flowing space which simply leads the guest intuitively. The theming of the hotel based on the 6 natural elements (earth, water, wood, metal, fire and air) reinforces  this whole experience.”
