Originally built in 1936 by Purple Gang mobster Al Wertheimer, the Spanish-style Colony Palms Hotel was once scandalously known as a speakeasy, brothel and gambling house frequented by the likes of Hollywood elite, including Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable and Carol Lombard. For the next 25 years it would be a haven for young Hollywood. Recently, it has undergone a massive renovation to restore the 1940’s Hollywood glamour by Los Angeles based Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. Now the hotel remains a resting place for the young and fabulous seeking a dessert get-away.
